Itinerary

This is a 2-day mass-ride from Coast to Coast on the 140-mile Sustrans C2C route.

Please aim to be at St Peter's Car Park, University of Sunderland, SR6 0DD shortly after 0600 on Saturday July 17. We want all the coaches away for Whitehaven before 0700 so you get to start in good time.

Alston is the halfway point. Overnight campsite with food and entertainment.

Get up and go early Sunday morning and head for the sea at Roker (opposite Adventure Sunderland), the end of the route.

Please note that this is a relatively challenging event which will put you to the test. It is not advisable for people who are not reasonably saddle-fit. Also, the path will be open to pedestrians, so please do take care as you cycle.

RNLI, Roker. This is the finish point. It is roughly a 4 minute ride to the free car park at St Peter's, the University of Sunderland campus. There will be a reception hosted by the RNLI and Sunderland City Council, then we will leave you to make your own way back to your car or the railway station.

NB: Whilst bikes are allowed on trains they are NOT allowed on the Metro.

Route Advice
On arrival at Whitehaven Marina you will be reunited with your bike and bags, please collect anything you need from your luggage as you won’t see them again before camp at Alston.

You are now free to set off along the route as soon as you are ready. It will have been some time since you had breakfast so maybe you would like to get some more! There is no official start, just go! Remember to have a photo taken in front of the giant C2C marker sign on the harbour ramp.

The first ten miles or so are on railway path with an easy gradient, thereafter, there is a bit more undulation on minor roads then a tough climb up and over Whinlatter Pass before a lovely forest downhill to Keswick, which has lots of shops, cafes and pubs.

After Keswick there is a rail path to Threlkeld and then back onto minor roads to Penrith where you can refuel before climbing up and over Hartside.
